Eversong: The daughter of Chaos: Volume 1 Rank: #594399 in eBooksPublished on: 2016-02-12Released on: 2016-02-12Format: Kindle eBook 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful.Eversong: the story outweighs the editing...By PL Pearl Kirkby(No spoilers here...you'll have to read it yourself!)Although I would have liked to give "Eversong" 5 stars and am tempted to give it 3 and a half, I find, after a good bit of pondering, that I feel comfortable giving it 4 stars, because: The story was gripping, right from the beginning; a female character who isn't afraid to get her hands dirty and jump into the midst of battle is, in my opinion, most admirable. In the development of Elora (and I feel likewise about every single other character in this book...even the antagonists!), the author outdid himself.Alternate dimensions/worlds is in no way a new concept, nor is magic, the realm of faeries, elves and monstrous demons, and nor even that of half god/half human; nevertheless, the story behind Elora's life on earth, outside of the world to which she was born, and her ultimate destiny, which will affect both worlds, is one I have not read before. In short, the story is exciting and stimulates the reader's imagination.Elora came to grew up here on earth, an orphan being raised by her uncle, but we do not discover the how's, why's and wherefore's until after her "present" is fully detailed. We are well prepared for the story to unfold, though, by the excellent storyline leading up to each tell-tale experience, from the first chapter to the final confrontation in the last. Each turn of events which sheds light on her birthright, her particular powers, her initiation into such knowledge and her strength of character as her history is revealed to her, is well thought out and written. It cannot have been a simple task to portray how a basically decent hearted young person is able to accept the revelation that she is the offspring of a truly vile and corrupt demon, not to mention the manner in which she was conceived, but Mr. Salter succeeded in that and more. He very ably expressed her feelings of horror at that evil, versus her innate goodness. The prologue which introduces the first of many horrible creatures she will encounter (like the insect creatures that like to invade their victims bodies on the most horrific manner in order to possess them...ewwww!! :O ), further, the details of the towns, cities, woodlands, the demon world of the Shadowlands, stores and living quarters, in the dimensions of both earth and Aslania and the descriptions of the battles fought...all effectively drop the reader into the middle of the action. My temptation to give but 3-1/2 stars stems from the fact that Eversong would have been easy to read, if only the punctuation, grammar and spelling had not been so consistently neglected for three or four chapters at a time...as though these chapters never enjoyed the proofer's/editor's eye or pen. It was very distracting to have to re-read long sentences which lacked the delineation of commas, whole sentences that are broken (not into short, choppy sentences...the reader will notice these), improper uses of words like there, their, your and you're, in order to follow along seamlessly. And I DID love the book (and the cover, too, btw!), notwithstanding! I enjoyed it immensely and recommend it to anyone who likes the feeling of goosebumps, the thrill of magical adventures and ever so discreet, sweet love stories. For me, it's a keeper and well worth the read, editing warts and all.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.Music, Mystery, and a Military FeelBy You can call me LynnTo me this was a mixture of what some might call heroic fantasy and magical realism.Elora is a young woman with a beautiful voice who sang the one song her uncle/guardian asked her not to sing. A powerful man now wants her and is willing to stop at nothing to get her. Elora narrowly escaped his clutches and looked for the person who her uncle said helped them before. Those series of events put her on a journey to a place she was never supposed to go.I have never been much for fantasy stories, so color me surprised when I found myself turning the pages wanting to know what was going to happen next. Maybe it was because it had a military feel to it mixed with that of music. I suppose that was the draw for me plus there is a bit of an underlying mystery.Warning: There is violence as well as some adult language and situations.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.A fantastic tale!By Elaina J DavidsonThe cover drew me in first! There’s something mesmerising about the cover, and then the title got my attention. Eversong. What is the ‘eversong’ I asked myself … and started reading. I really don’t want to spoil this for you by launching into a synopsis of the tale, but allow me to say this: the Eversong is all-important to saving not only one, but two, civilisations! And the song resides in Elora! All is not what it seems, though, and it is for very good reason that Elora is warned from a young age to never sing.Enter the Shadojak and his Shaigun, assassins with a noble mission. One falls for Elora and the consequences will reach across realms. Add in a few strange creatures both adorable and particularly nasty and I know you want to read this now!Despite a typo here and there, I am giving Eversong 5 stars. Great cover, great title, huge imagination, a fantastic tale!See all 5 customer reviews...
