BlevinsRebekah Redeemed is book one in the Women of the Bible series by Dianne G. Sadan. Dianne took the stories of the Gospels in the Bible and added research into the era of Jesus of Nazareth to fill out the ladies she talks about. Each woman overcomes some problem with her past through the grace of Jesus.Rebekah was orphaned at the age of six. Her Mother had died in childbirth and her Father was killed by a lion attacking his sheep. When her Mother decided to marry her Father, she was disowned by her own family. Now as an orphan, Caleb, one of the other shepherds, took her to Bethany to her uncle’s home to be taken care of. However, he took her in as a slave and worked her in his home. His wife despised her and was cruel to her as well as her other slaves. It was as one of his dinners when his wife was out of town, that one of her Uncle’s guests molested her. After her Uncle’s death, she was sold to her other Uncle once more as a slave. This time, his wife recognized her but kept her out of her husband’s sight. When she got a chance to send her to her son’s home, she did. At one of his orgies, she barely escaped rape again. The servants in her cousin’s home conspired to help her run away. Now at seventeen, she is out on her own. She comes into contact with Jesus and her life changes. It seemed almost like a narrative with dialogue. It was a quick read and did keep my interest but it had no real bite to it. I did like how I had a small view of life in biblical times.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.Needs more showing, less telling.By CustomerThe story itself was compelling, even though very simply told.
